Named after Don Collins, former Superintendent of the Klein Independent School District, Klein Collins High School is the largest high school in Texas. The 550,000 sf multi-purpose facility sits on a wooded 70-acre site and can accommodate over 3,200 students. Because the design progressed with the construction, scheduling was built around TAS' production capabilities. TAS' flexibility and stability were key since the original scope of work was modified with a total of 49 change orders. But, close communication with key vendors and suppliers allowed TAS to provide quality services in a timely manner. The total scope of TAS' work included 428,000 sf of slab on grade; 177,500 sf of mezzanine space; 487,400 sf of paving; and 1,563 piers. The two gymnasiums, auditorium and natatorium had very challenging specifications, including stringent gym floor tolerances, extensive forming to create the seating formation in the auditorium, and sloped natatorium flooring to aid in draining water. |
